Whale Watching!

Saturday, we went to Barnstable and caught a ride on a whale watching boat to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. We saw about 35 humpback whales, actively feeding, some Atlantic white-sided dolphins and minke whales, plus one grey harbor seal. Great day.

    • It was a lot of fun. The guide (“naturalist”) told us the birds were looking for table scraps. Fish that escaped capture by the whales and ended up near the surface, or that were in the whale’s mouths unsecured. One of the ways the tour folks know there are whales feeding under the surface is to watch for lots of birds.
