Ailsa’s Travel Theme this week is statues, so here are a few of my favorite images of statues.
Abe Lincoln, at his memorial on the Washington, DC Tidal Basin.
Statue of George Washington in Boston’s Pubic Garden during the World Series in 2013.
The Statue of Liberty, as seen from the Brooklyn Bridge.
Outside of a house in Houghs Neck, Mass.
Headstone in a cemetery in Quincy, Mass.
Do you have photos of statues you’d like to share? It’s easy. Just go to Ailsa’s site, and get started!
It’s been overcast here the past few days, so the assignment: go out and take pictures during The Golden Hour, has resulted in some lovely photos, but none that show off the fine light which the challenge is looking for. So, I went back in the archives to a spring visit to the Tidal Basin in Washington DC, during the Cherry Blossom Festival.
If you want to play along, head on over to The Daily Post for the rules.
Unfortunately, I read Beyond Paisley’s post on this theme before starting on mine, and now I’m jealous that she thought to include Otis Redding’s Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay, because that song epitomizes the theme. I lost a competition I hadn’t even entered yet! 🙂
OK, down to business. This week, Ailsa over at Where’s my Backpack has challenged her fellow bloggers to post photos that show the theme “peaceful.” Since the weather outside today is anything but peaceful, I dug through the archives (and just doing that provides some measure of peace). These are the images I think fit the theme this week.
There were a lot of people wandering around the Tidal Basin during the Cherry Blossom Festival, but the atmosphere was peaceful, nonetheless.
Time to have a nap under a tree.
Waiting … waiting for the sun to come up and take the fog up with it, on Walden Pond.
Walking around the Tidal Basin and National Mall in Washington DC on a pleasant spring day, you’ll see a wide variety of fashions, and last weekend was no exception. Here are a few of my favorites.
I wish I’d been able to get this group together. Two pink strollers with identically dressed twins inside. One pushed by this woman with the lovely red hat, and the other by a woman with a red and pink ensemble. Someday, I’ll be brave enough to stop people and ask them to pose for pictures. For now, though, just this.
Another twin – his brother refused to get out of the stroller. This was a family out on the Tidal Basin with a photographer attempting to take family photos. It didn’t seem like she was having the easiest time of it, since this one refused to look her direction, and the other one wouldn’t get out of the stroller. Loving the look, though, and it was even better in duplicate.
This one was my favorite. A couple, both dressed in suits and white tennis shoes, holding hands and enjoying the early morning sun and the cherry blossoms. I want to be them when I grow up.
