I’m really curious what sort of beetles these are. If you know, please share in the comments. The first was so cool – it looked like an Asian Beetle, only with a clear bubble over its wings. I must have used 100 clicks on it.
Edit: It appears the first is called a Golden Tortoise Beetle, some info here, and as seen in south India, here. The yellow and black beetle is a Cucumber Beetle, so today’s mystery is solved.
I wish I knew, that’s amazing! Never seen anything like him!
Looks like a Golden Tortoise Beetle, which is allegedly common in the east. I’ve never seen one before! Now I have to figure out what the other one is!
Thats the coolest thing I ever saw! I found this …..http://pinterest.com/revelzetta/tortoise-beetles/
That’s helpful – it looks like a Golden Tortoise Beetle – when disturbed, they turn red. https://insects.tamu.edu/fieldguide/bimg195.html. This one was on a pumpkin plant, which makes sense. It was seriously cool. I couldn’t leave it alone!
It was seriously cool and I learned something! Thanks : )
Me too! Coming dangerously close to an educational blog. I’ll cease immediately.
NO DON’T !!!!
Just the education part. It hurts my brain.
Same question, on a similar looking creature posted by another blogger. May be you guys can compare notes! 🙂

Isn’t that funny – a real coincidence. Thank you for sharing the info from the other blogger – this could be fun!
hey johnny…i shot the identical beetle here in south india:)am also looking to identify it…lemme know if you do…cheers
That is so funny, Sandy. I love that you call it a space craft, because that’s how I was describing it to my husband. “It’s like, a ladybug in a bubble, or a spacecraft!” 😉
hey thanxx…this is such an apt name and i wonder if i’d ever see a golden one..coz they look gorgeous..and am sorry..but are you called johnny:)
such beauties…i was thrilled the whole day for having spotted it…now i need to find out if they are common in india…
Now I’m going to be on the lookout for a golden one, too! They are really amazing.
My name is Angie, but I answer to many things, including johnny!
I looked and haven’t seen any information about whether they’re common in India, and if they’re not, I want to know how yours got so far from home!
hey angie…it looks like they are pretty common in south india…we are a part of one of the hot spots of biological diversity, called the western ghats..so am guessing these beetles are a part of that diversity:)and i hope you and i both get lucky with a golden one…
That is cool. Let me know if you find one!
Um. Beetle? What are you all talking about? That’s CLEARLY a lady bug! ;oP
Sure. A lady bug … in a bubble!
Hmmm…. the first one definitely has a look of a ladybird, but how curious to be in the little bubble!
Lovely photos 🙂
Yes, the bubble was definitely the most interesting part. Now I want to sit at that plant all day and wait for the beetle to reappear!
Maybe he has a wife – or a friend? 😉
One can hope.

I agree the first beetle looks as if it has its own little bubble protection, so cute!!
Isn’t it? I have yet to spot another, but I’m determined!
